The transport visa is intended for professional drivers who need to enter Italy for international freight activities. It is a short-term visa designed for those who work in the logistics sector and need to cross Italy for deliveries, pickups or transits related to the transportation of goods.
In order to obtain a transport visa in Italy, it is necessary to submit complete documentation on both the person driving the vehicle and the transport company for which he or she serves, as well as documents related to the vehicle and travel routes.
Requirements and required documents
In order to apply for a transport visa, one must submit all the documents specified by the Embassy, in original and photocopy. Required documents include:
- Completed and signed Schengen visa form.
- A recent passport photo with a light background (35×40 mm).
- Valid passport with at least three months remaining validity after the expiration of the requested visa, plus photocopy of pages with personal data, stamps and visas.
- Travel health insurance with minimum coverage of €30,000, valid throughout the European Union.
- Payment of prescribed consular fees.
- Driver’s license or international driver’s license.
- C2 / L2 document (export license).
- CMR International Transport Certificates.
- Letter from the transportation company on letterhead, in Italian or English, specifying destination, reasons, travel time and guarantee of expenses, signed by the authorized representative.
- Employment certificate, employment summary (Form 4A) and pay stubs for the last three months signed and stamped.
- For non-employees: notary employment contract.
- Certificate of business activity and registration with the Chamber of Commerce.
- Table of taxes paid by the company.
- Circular of the company’s authorized signatures or authentication of signatures for individual activities.
- Possible letter of support U.N.D.
- Documentation of the driver’s EU entries and exits (Police certificate + personal statement).
- Registration papers of the vehicle used.
- Possible letter of invitation from an Italian company, signed by the legal representative, with reasons and period of stay, accompanied by the signer’s ID.
The application must be turned in complete in every part, because the transport visa requires detailed verification of the identity of the driver, the activity of the transport company and the regularity of the vehicle documents.
