Visto per affari in Italia

The business visa allows non-EU citizens to enter Italy to carry out activities of a professional or commercial nature, such as participating in meetings with Italian partners, business negotiations, trade fairs, company visits or preparatory meetings for future collaborations.

The business visa is a short-term visa designed exclusively for temporary work needs: it does not allow for employment and the maximum stay is 90 days per 180 days.

To apply for a visa, it is necessary to demonstrate that the trip has a real and documented professional purpose, that the stay will be adequately supported by one’s own economic resources, and that there is a genuine connection with the inviting company or entity in Italy.

Requirements and required documents

To obtain a visa, a complete application must be submitted to the appropriate Italian Embassy or Consulate. Required documentation includes:

  • Schengen visa application form, completed in full and signed.
  • Valid passport, with at least two free pages and with a remaining validity of at least three months after the intended date of exit from Italy.
  • Recent passport-size photograph.
  • Letter of invitation from the Italian company, which should clearly explain the reason for the trip, length of stay, planned activities, and contact details of the host institution.
  • Documentation of the host company, such as Chamber of Commerce visura or equivalent registration (when required by the Consulate).
  • Proof of accommodation in Italy, e.g., hotel reservation or declaration of hospitality.
  • Round-trip ticket or confirmed travel itinerary.
  • Proof of economic means necessary to support the stay and return to the country of origin.
  • Health insurance.

Regarding the availability of economic means, Italian regulations require the applicant to prove that he or she has sufficient funds according to the official tables of the Ministry of the Interior.

If the applicant cannot prove resources through personal documents (such as bank statements or income), the consular office may require a bank or insurance guarantee, especially when travel costs are borne by the inviting Italian company.
